Culture Day - St Kents goes worldwide!

At the beginning of November St Kentigern's Academy had its very own Culture Day organised by a handful of our senior students with Ethan Rodger being the one to suggest and host the event. He made tons of donations towards culture day that made the whole thing possible. All subject ambassadors came together and got to choose their very own country for their department to beautifully decorate their corridors. In preparation for Culture Day the social area was scattered with stalls on different countries such as Philippines and Poland which included relevant items like cultural food, and other stalls that weren't countries included guess the landmark and face painting. There were also many different additions that were added all around the school, for example, there was a map that had pinpoints highlighting what country and even continent people in the school are from. This emphasised the various cultures we have in our school and makes everyone feel included that their country was represented! On Culture Day every student got the opportunity to dress for their culture, with many people coming in bright colours to represent where they are from. Throughout the day anyone was welcome to come see all the stalls that all the senior students put the best effort into preparing. Culture Day brought all years together, our school got the chance to celebrate the diversity throughout St Kents and how each person's culture is important. Culture day was not only a successful event that everyone enjoyed and had lots of fun in, but it also raised seven hundred and fifty-two pounds on Culture Day and around one thousand and four hundred pounds overall. Half of the money that was raised has went towards Uniceif and the other half towards many different future events that year groups can take part of. St Kentigern's first ever culture day was full of joyous memories and was enjoyable to all students and teachers. Well done to all the hard-working participants that helped Culture Day for creating one of the liveliest, inclusive events the school has held.
