Positive mental health is not just about feeling happy, it is about being able to learn, grow, and truly flourish. At St Kentigern’s Academy, we understand that physical and mental health work hand in hand. When young people feel low, stop going out, or feel disconnected, isolation can quickly take hold. That’s why creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment is so important.
Our school community works hard to promote wellbeing through initiatives such as Feel-Good Friday and our Mental Health Toolkit, helping pupils build positive habits like gratitude, appreciating the people around us and the support we all share. Events like Culture Day remind us that everyone is equal, and together, as one community, we can help one another.
Teachers and staff play a vital role in supporting mental health. They do their best to raise awareness, encourage success, and put support plans in place when needed, including individual interventions and separate accommodations. We also focus on prevention and inclusion through PSE lessons on mental health and wellbeing, and Religious Education that promotes respect, faith, and diversity.
We recognise when a young person may be struggling, changes in behaviour, mood, appearance, participation, or tiredness can all be signs. Having open conversations with trusted staff helps to build strong relationships and makes school a safer place for everyone. However, we understand that some pupils may not feel ready to speak up, and that is okay. Support is always here when they are ready.
With wellbeing groups, MVP mentors, and caring staff, St Kentigern’s Academy continues to do more to support our young people. We are here to help everyone become the best version of themselves, because when pupils feel supported, accepted, and understood, they can truly reach their full potential.
